About the Founder

The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange was developed in early 2007 by Amanda Mauer Taflinger. While living in Chicago she participated in the Renegade Craft Fair and after moving back to Indy she decided that not only did her hometown need something similar, but that the city's growing D.I.Y. art community could, in fact, support it successfully. The inaugural event was held in October 2007 at The Irving Theater in conjunction with the 61st Annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival. The event has since grown considerably, demanding a larger venue. The IHE moved to the Harrison Center for the Arts in October 2008, to be held in conjunction with IDADA's wildly popular First Friday gallery openings. In 2009, the event went biannual and was held in June in conjunction with the Independent Music + Art Festival, as well as in October, once again on the First Friday of the month. In 2012 the October First Friday show was cancelled, and instead, a December First Friday holiday show was added to the calendar of events.

Amanda and her husband, Neal, also own a small boutique in Irvington, on the east side of Indianapolis, called Homespun: Modern Handmade.
